Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo Reactions

The first thing that struck me as I began to play the Platinum Demo was how incredibly gorgeous Final Fantasy XV is going to be. No matter how good the end game is - I'm sure it'll be great - it's surely going to be one of the best looking games ever made. Throughout the Uncovered event - you can read my summary and reactions for that here - we were told how good looking the game is, I think being able to see evidence of that in this demo is brilliant and means that barrier between where the PR speak ends and reality begins is is ever smaller.

In the same vein, I think being able to show off the World and characters a little is also a brilliant idea, and a great way to show that you perhaps don't need prior knowledge before playing this game - which seems to be something that Square is putting huge emphasis on. That's great for someone like me who hasn't jumped into the series before, but would like to when September comes.

The whole thing takes about 30 minutes - 31 minutes for me to be precise -  which is something of a double edged sword. On one hand, it's great to see just a small, self-contained story and snapshot of what the end game might be like. On the other, it was a lot of fun, and I would have loved to see a little more of everything, but I suppose that hype-building is exactly what this kind of thing is for.

Something I wasn't a huge fan of was the camera - which flipped out on occasion and just randomly moved round: it only happened a few times, but it was annoying.

Otherwise, I thought it was a very cute slice of what might be on offer. I enjoyed the combat (however dumbed-down it may have been for a majority of the game), I enjoyed Carbuncle - who's the little furry creature who helps Noctis (who the player controls) - who was also incredibly cute.

Essentially, whether you're planning to play FFXV or not, I think you should play this. It's free, fun and flippin' gorgeous: what's not to love?
